Newsletter January 2017
Past President’s Message:
As I reflect back on our first year as the Temecula Valley Modern Quilt Guild I am so grateful for each and every one of you! I think we tend to underestimate our contributions when in fact they matter more than we realize! I want to thank Sue Stone of Needle in a Fabric Stash for her vision and encouragement to help us start up the guild. I also want to thank her for letting us use her shop for our Meetings this past year, and for fabric donated to our Guild! I am very thankful for our Secretary - Natalie Pollard, our Treasurer - Colleen Molen and our Vice President & Social Media Chair - Jessica Rittgarn. Your support, ideas, and tireless efforts over the past year were invaluable!
A huge thank you to Colleen Molen, Susan Long, Angelica Jones, Natalie Pollard and Jan Prytz for teaching wonderful lessons and workshops during the year! I truly loved seeing what all of you shared this past year! It was enriching and motivating!
You ALL have inspired me and each other to step up our game, be fearless and create beauty!! I watched so many of you push yourself outside of your comfort zone and do amazing things! I love the laughing, sharing, and friendships forming through Guild meetings, Sit n Sews, working together on our charity quilts and at the Christmas party!!! It’s great how you support each other!
This year, I have no doubt that we will be able to accomplish even more than last year!! Take a moment to think of how you’ve grown this past year and all you’ve learned! Make a new goal to finish your UFO’s, enter a contest, unleash your creativity with improv quilting, or simply refine your favorite techniques. We are grateful for your place in our story this past year and we look forward to seeing you in 2017! Jane Rowland

News and Notes
A library will be established so that members who desire to borrow a book or magazine can email the librarian and she will bring the item to the following meeting. Jessica Rittgarn, our vice president has volunteered to also be our librarian. Jessica will develop a list of the books and magazines available. The items will be posted on our Facebook page under Library Reference Content.
Colleen reminded us dues need to be turned in promptly and payments can be made with cash, by check, or through PayPal. We will be developing a member list after all dues are paid. She also will be setting up a website for the TVMQG. The website will be one place to connect to all of our social media (blog, IG, and FB). Colleen will also be placing a link on the MQG website for the TVMQG group so that people looking at the MQG site can locate our information.
Angelica has set up a new TVMQG group Facebook page that allows anyone interested in the TVMQG to join and subsequently post relevant quilting information. Angelica is the FB Administrator and will also be in charge of the IG account.
Susan Long will lead our Charity Quilt Committee. Susan will collect charity blocks as they are donated, and will also schedule Charity Sew Days to assemble charity quilts.
The Block of the Month is our new program for TVMQG's Charity Committee. The objective for the BOM is twofold, first to introduce skill building techniques, and second, we are asking that each group member donate at least one block to our new Charity Quilt Project. Members are encouraged to also make an extra block for themselves in their desired colors so they can eventually make a quilt. Please see the BOM page on our blog for the instructions.
Our Guild’s blog is tvmqg.blogspot.com.
Bits and Pieces
If you have any information that you would like to share with guild members through this newsletter, please send it to thetvmqg@gmail.com and we will try to include it!
Also… Quilty Magazine published two of Jan's quilts that had been previously published. Patterns are Grape's Crush and Green's Crossing. Per Jan, the latter is an easy queen size quilt to complete.
Once again our own Maritza Farr makes us proud! Her block was selected to be MQG’s Block of the Month for January! Way to go Maritza!
Here is a great blog post about what was done with all the quilt blocks our guild made for "Road to California's Roadies Give Back"! Giving Back With Love And Stitches Posted by Caryn Payzant
